Since the first tournament of the World Series of Poker Circuit kicked off back at the beginning of March at the King’s Casino in Rozvodav, the Czech Republic, the most anticipated tournament has been the main event. The Spring Festival’s Main Event begun officially last Friday and it will be continuing over a four-day span where all participants will be getting a chance to compete for the top positions.
The very first flight of the much anticipated Main Event took place this Friday and as expected, a decent number of the participants were familiar names from previous World Series of Poker events. This particular poker event when compared to the other poker festival’s events, drew one of the largest interest from participants and spectators alike – to put this into perspective, it is worth noting that there were a total of 241 players who were willing to enter the first flight of the event towards the final table.
There were, of course, a few hitches during the games. Also, there were 21 re-entries of people, all of whom were eliminated way too soon. Each and every player that was willing to participate needed to pay a buy-in that amounted to €1,650, that in turn guaranteed generous payouts for the top positions thanks to the humongous guaranteed prize pool. Speaking of the prize pool, it was confirmed that the Main Event features a €1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool and every player will have the opportunity to get a piece of it.
By the end of Day 1a, Germany’s Alexander Romme was the chip leader having amassed some 310,500 in chips. Romme, as it turns out, is one of the relatively new poker players at the tables even though he already had some brush with tournament cash back in 2010 which also happens to be at the same poker room.
