Millennials Set to Be the Driving Force of US Online Poker

Following the United States Supreme Court ruling that paved that paved the way for the legalization sports betting, the states have the power to whether a sports betting industry would be good for them or not. A number of states are expected to lean towards a regulated sports betting industry, but even then there is a crucial decision to be made, that is whether the consumers will be allowed to place bets in brick-and-mortar casinos or on the internet.

According to YouGov Profiles, when it comes to gambling in general, 50 percent of the consumers in the United States who are aged between 18 and 34 are more inclined to the idea of having online gambling legalized as compared to the 28 percent who disagree. Consumers aged between 35 and 49 also feel that online gambling should be allowed while those between 50 and 64 are more divided on the issue with those above the age of 65 being mostly on the opposing side.

The most interesting statistic from proved that millennials preferred gambling online to betting at physical casinos – apparently, in the United States 47 percent of adults aged between 18 and 34 think that land-based casinos are depressing. 47 percent is a very big number especially considering that only a third of all the adults mentioned above think otherwise. Older consumers, as it turns out, have more mixed feelings about whether casinos are depressing or not.

Furthermore, 3 percent of these millennials have admitted to placing bets with online bookmakers in the past year compared to the 1 percent of adults aged 35 and over who said they did the same. Also, YouGov BrandIndex data reveals that consumers over 34 years have a slightly more positive perception when it comes to the casino sector – this includes brands such as MGM, Grand, Cosmopolitan and Caesars Palace. The casino sector had Impression score of 9 among these adult but only a 6 among those aged 18 to 34. On the same note, the older crowd and the millennials gave the casino sector a Quality score of 11 and 7, respectively. Clearly, the online space is winning.
